Country singer Stephanie Brownlee musters up support!
A SUNSHINE Coast teenager is preparing to wow the world with her golden voice and will use this week's Country Music Muster at Amamoor, near Gympie, as her launch pad.
Stephanie Brownlee, 15, of Sunrise Beach, is being mentored by renowned producer Mike Chapman, who was responsible for American band Blondie's breakthrough album Parallel Lines and smash hits such as Tina Turner's Simply The Best.
"Steph is the real thing,"
Mr Chapman said.
She has the makings of a great voice, looks terrific and has attitude on tap.
The pair met after Mr Chapman bought a holiday unit at Noosa through Stephanie's stepfather, a real estate agent. The youngster, who sings everything from country to pop, and her family have plans to move to the US, where Mr Chapman is based, next year. He will continue to mentor her with the hope of getting a break into the highly competitive entertainment industry.
It's my dream and I can't see myself doing anything else,
Mr Chapman believes Stephanie has a great chance at fame.
Steph is the kind of artist you notice right away because she sings so well (and) she has an abundance of confidence that washes over you, he said
Stephanie will first be trying to impress local crowds at this week's Toyota National Country Music Muster at the Amamoor Creek State Forest Park.
The Sunshine Beach High School student will perform five songs in the Muster's talent search, which starts on Thursday.
This is the third time the youngster has performed in the search. Last year she took out the junior category and this year she hopes to win judges in the senior division.
Something about the Muster just makes me perform really well and I really like it Stephanie said

Sweet Sounds of next Country Music Artist.
Following in the boot-steps of Keith Urban, the next Aussie to win over the country music capital of the world might hail from Sunrise Beach.
At 15, Stephanie BRownlee is already well on her way to country music stardom after releasing her EP and taking home a swag of music awards.
Two weeks ago, Stephanie performed at The Cane Country Music Festival in Brisbane where she won overall champion.
It was overwhelming"
I wasn't expecting the results
Stephanie said she hoped to be accepted into Camerata, a school
for country music in Tamworth that claims Keith Urban among it's past students.
Born in Tamworth she's already performed at the Country Music Festival, but she siad she was set on much bigger stages.
I'll be going to Nashville at the end of next year. Hopefully doing a few gigs

We can all admit to singing with the vacuum cleaner, or performing to screaming fans in the shower. But few of us can claim we have got what it takes to entertain. Noosa girl Stephanie Brownlee can.
She wowed them at the Gympie Muster in 2006, and earned $1000 busking at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, and now she is set to bring her golden vocal chords to the Caloundra Music Festival as a performer in the Busk It Up competition. Performing in front of thousands of people does not faze 14-year-old Stephanie, whose first public performance was at the Muster.
My first performance was pretty scary
But I started doing some karaoke at the surf club to make it easier for me… now I just jump on stage.
Although she has only been performing for little more than a year, Stephanie has quickly attracted attention from the country music industry. She was selected to take part in the Telstra Road to Tamworth, an audition process which had previously unearthed Australian talent Keith Urban and also took out the Talent Search juniors section overall at this year’s Muster. It is all happening for this youngster, who was prompted by mum Natasha (corr) to start singing lessons.
Teenagers sort of start singing around the house, and one day I thought ‘Oh she’s really not bad,’ Natasha said
One of her friends was going to voice coaching so she started having lessons. The first coach she had told her she has a raw natural talent.
Although Stephanie’s base is in country music, she loves to sing along with modern pop musicians like Beyonce and Christina Aguilera.
I actually want to sing pop, but I want to get into that more later on," Stephanie said. "I will be performing a little bit of everything I like at the Music Festival, a little R&B, a little pop and maybe a little country
Caloundra Music Festival volunteer Tenneille Dawson (corr) said Busk It Up would be running over Saturday and Sunday at various points along the foreshore.
We’ve mainly got youth performers at the moment, Tenneille said.
And instruments of all kinds are encouraged. There are four categories – best use performance, best street performance- which can include juggling or miming - best musical individual performance for adults and best musical group performance.
Interested people can register on the website right up until October 17. |

Strumming Her Way Up
by Sue Short
At just 14, Good Year Shepherd Year 10 Student Stephanie Brownlee knows exactly what she wants out of life and not even wild storms and floods will stop her.
Her goal is to be a top-selling recording artist and performer, selling millions of records to adoring fans.
Despite being caught up in floods, she recently took out first place at the Maton Talent Search at the Gympie Muster in the Junior section up against 18 other contestants. But there was disappointment in this win as she had higher goals.
It took her tow hours to get to the Gympie Muster because of the flooding and she missed the Senior section for the modern popular, which would have given her the opportunity to go into the finals.
I had to go into the Junior one and won that section but was unable to enter the finals"
she says grimly
If I would have been there for the Senior one, I would have had more of change to win
But even that hasn't deterred her. Ms Brownlee rehearses constantly to meet her goals and is now learning the guitar to improve her performance. Since then her hard work has paid off again when she took home five trophies at the Martin Fallon Cavalier Homes Junior Country Music Festival where she won the novice section and modern popular and overall point scorer.
She also won a six-hour recording session in a professional studio and the chance to compete in the Champion of Champions in November in Toowoomba.
Ms Brownlee has already won a swag of awards including Aristocrat Entertainer of the Year at the Tamworht Country Music Festival last year, second place in Gympie Idol and second place at the Rockin' Tewantin Festival
I am always singing. I like to make people happy - it's what I love
Ms Brownlee is recording her first album in five weeks with songs written by Andrew Cochrane. |
